Installing a Quick Change Toolpost

I got a new lathe and it didn’t come with the kind of quick change toolpost I like. To be fair it’s much better than the rocker type, but still, not state of the art.

Here is the orignal tool post.

I ordered a quick change toolpost set and was pretty please when it arrived. The problem was that the nut that holds the tool post is a bit square and the cross slide on my lathe has a round hole for the nut.

Here is the nut in the chuck ready to turn.

Here it is after turning and ready to install in the cross slide.

Here it is in the cross slide. There is a set screw (shown as a half circle) that used to hold the original nut.

Here is the new set screw drilled, tapped and installed. Now it just needs to be put back together.

All done. Time to make chips!
